Your analysis of the passage was very good as you were able to talk about all of the major points, specifically the tone of the piece and the importance of small details. By including an analysis of the shift in tone between the beginning of the passage and the middle when Mr. Button begins to realize that something is wrong, you identify an aspect of Fitzgerald’s writing style. You were also able to come back and connect the change in tone and establish it as an indicator for Fitzgerald’s opinion on society. Also, the fact that you pointed out smaller details, such as the meaning of the word “anachronism”, gives more meaning to the passage as a whole as these small details create foreshadowing for the revealing of Benjamin.
The only criticism I really have for your analysis is that you do not really deal with any of the pacing of the piece, witch in conjunction with tone contributes even further to the foreshadowing that occurs within the passage. For example, when Fitzgerald goes from quick dialogue between the doctor and Mr. Button, and then suddenly slows things down by having Button wait before going into the hospital, he is indicating the gravity of the situation. However, on the whole your piece was a good analysis of the passage and hit all of the major points as well as the small details.
