First of all, I really like your introduction because it makes me want to actually continue reading. In the introduction, you clearly address the first part of the prompt by showing how Benjamin, due to his physical disorder, did not fit into the norm of society. You went onto give context for the society in which status is everything. Therefore, due to the fact that Benjamin was physically ill, he did not have a great “status”, and this meant that he did not meet the standards of that society. You also do a good job about outlining how the fact the Benjamin did not meet the standards of the society fueled him to surpass the expectations of society, and as a result, he became very rich and successful. However, I feel that you should add more support to your claims in order to create a deeper analysis of the complexity between Benjamin’s abnormality and his surpassing the expectations of society. Similarly, in Brave New World, John “the Savage” originates from a civilization known as the reservation. John does not meet the standards of this society because although he was raised there from birth, he is white, unlike the Native Americans that surround him. The fact that John does not meet the standards of the society makes him feel a strong need to gain acceptance. To do so, he becomes very accustomed to the traditions and religions of the Native Americans, even surpassing some of the other Native Americans’ morality. However, despite his attempts, John never gains acceptance into that society.
